During the Art Nouveau period, the creations of Daum excelled in complexity. This complexity is made possible by the glass paste or “pate de verre” technique, which originated in ancient Egypt around 5,000 BC and was rediscovered by Daum in 1900 and subsequently refined. Between the two world wars, Daum developed a monochrome Art Deco style featuring thicker walls and geometric patterns etched deeply into the glass.
