Royal gift for the Russian Empress
Shown for the first time in the Benelux
'Flora Danica' from Royal Copenhagen is considered the world’s most luxurious porcelain service. Is was ordered in 1790 by the Danish King Christian VII as a gift to the Russian Empress Catherina II. The service owes its name to the 700 true-to-life plant decorations from the prestigious botanical work 'Flora Danica', in which every plant from the Danish realm is described in meticulous detail.
Today, this service is still made in exactly the same way as 200 years ago. On 4 and 5 March a craftsman of Royal Copenhagen will give painting demonstrations at ARS.
Extra eye-catcher
'The Princess on the Pea'
The world’s most valuable bonbonnière
The 45 cm high ‘The Princess on the Pea’ is painted in more than 80 colours. It takes seven to eight months to manufacture the sweet box, the endlessly detailed decoration alone taking already 6 months.
The Princess on the Pea is only made to order. Since 1911 only 9 copies have been released. At present, it costs about 1.2 million Danish crowns (i.e. about 160,000 euro).
On Saturday 4, Sunday 5 and Monday 6 March you can come and admire these valuable pieces exclusively at ARS Select Home Styling, from 14.00 to 19.00 h. The exhibition is unique in the Benelux!
